Stuffs into a pocket with a clip loop as well, and has drop in pockets inside which is a nice touch. It weighs four ounces more than similar jackets but does not make up for the extra weight with added comfort, durability, warmth, or lower cost. The Outdoor Research Uberlayer is a well constructed, highly breathable jacket that, along with the Nano-Air, is changing how we think about layering. The Uberlayer performed reasonably well in our tests. The Uberlayer jacket is only offered in a hooded style. Not all that warm though - for New England Winters I imagine you would want something warmer. Its hood has a partial wire brim that’s easy to manipulate and adjust and provides good protection and field of vision. It’s large enough to slip over most helmets (we tried the Smith Variance and Giro Range ski helmets) but isn’t overwhelmingly big. The Uberlayer seems to be OR's answer to the Nano-Air, although it has 98g/m2 polartec Alpha while the Nano Air has 60 g/m2 fullrange. Perfect for aerobic climbs and ski tours, the mens Uberlayer jacket combines weather-resistance, warmth and breathability for a jacket you can wear whether. So the Uberlayer is probably about 1/3 warmer and about 1/3 heavier than the Nano-Air, and probably doesn't breath quite as well - but would be more appropriate in colder weather. None of them are really ideal for belaying, they are more geared towards active use as the wind will cut through all of them without a shell on top.
